IS THIS A COMPLIMENT?

I have a confession to make which some will find strange. I absolutely hate shopping! Why you are probably asking? Isn't that every woman's spare time dream? Not for me; it's more of a headache than fun. The long lines, lousy service, greedy sales people, lazy sales people, disorganized stores, trying on clothes, missing tags, empty shelves and my worst nightmare, 50% off sales. That's one of the reasons I'm a big fan of the internet; no lines.

Anyway it was time for me to order some new clothes. When I find something I like, I just order several in different colors; keep it simple. I wore my new outfits to work and got a ton of compliments. Don't misunderstand me, compliments are great. However after about five compliments I noticed something. Now prepare yourself because you may find this strange too.

All of the let's call them "plain jane" women just gave me compliments like nice outfit or you look really great. Just your simple compliment and of course I thanked them. HOWEVER all the "girly girl" women gave me a compliment with the third degree. It went something like this: that's a great outfit; where you get that from? How much did you pay for it? Was it on sale? What other colors did they have? Just a long drawn out conversation about something I really didn't care to discuss.

I felt offended on so many levels; total invasion of my privacy. These were coworkers asking me these questions, not friends. My real friends know I hate talking about this kind of stuff. It just doesn't interest me at all. Like I pointed out; I shop out of necessity. Why the hell can't they just give a compliment without the third degree? I am not good at social rules. So tell me, is this acceptable behavior? I really want to know (taking a poll).

The more I thought about this; it really wasn't a compliment at all! It was a conversation to gather information. Please vote in the POLL below. I am very interested in getting every one's opinion.
